TB Tales - A Photo Essay’ kicks off in Citi Centre, to mark World TB Day

To mark World TB Day 2013, REACH organised a exhibition of 14 photographs by Yuvraj Vivek, capturing the daily lives of those affected by TB. The exhibition was inaugurated in Citi Centre on March 26, by Actor Jiiva and will continue on to various popular venues across the city, including corporation parks, railway stations and corporate offices, where it will be available for public view. Reach Lilly MDR-TB Partnership Media Awards 2012, held in New Delhi

This annual award, held this year in New Delhi on March 22, aims to recognise outstanding reporting on TB. The awards were presented by Dr Jagdish Prasad, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The winners were felicitated by Dr Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General, Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s Central TB Control Division. The winner in the English category was Mumbai-based journalist Mr Prayag Akbar, the runner -up was Ms Viveka Roychowdhury of Express Pharma. In the local language category Mr Yasir Fayas of Matrubhumi Arogyamasika emerged winner and the runner-up was Ranchi-based Tehelka journalist, Ms Anupama Kumari. Memorandum submitted to Health Minister and Health Secretary of Tamil Nadu, requesting immediate Government action in TB Control

A meeting coordinated by REACH and The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases brought together civil society organisations, TB Forum members and partners working in various districts in Tamil Nadu under Project Axshya, to discuss the current state of the Tuberculosis Programme in Tamil Nadu. The participants pledged to provide all necessary support in strengthening TB control programme in the state and drafted a memorandum which was later submitted to the Health Minister and Health Secretary of Tamil Nadu Government, as well as others involved with TB control. Dr. Nalini Krishnan named TB Champion of 2013, by the Partnership for TB Care and Control in India

In recognition of her exemplary work in promoting tuberculosis care and control, Dr Nalini Krishnan was presented with the TB Champion for 2013 award, by the Partnership for TB Care and Control in India, at a ceremony in Gurgaon on January 17. As this year’s winner, Dr Nalini Krishnan will also serve as the Partnership’s TB Ambassador, offering guidance and inspiration to its work to enhance TB services across India. Dr Nevin Wilson delivers REACH Oration

The REACH Oration Series is back! Dr Nevin Wilson, Regional Director (South East Asia Office), the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, delivered the REACH Oration on 24 September 2012, speaking on ‘Tuberculosis Control in India: How can we do more?’. The Oration was attended by RNTCP officials including the State TB Officer, senior scientists, private practitioners from the REACH PPM network, the REACH staff and members of the public. REACH receives two grants from Lilly MDR-TB Partnership

REACH is proud to announce the launch of two projects, both supported by a United Way Worldwide grant made possible by the Lilly Foundation on behalf of the Lilly MDR-TB Partnership. Over the next five years, REACH will work closely with two key stakeholder groups - with the media and with pharmacies in Chennai and Thanjavur. Stay tuned for updates!

REACH receives generous donation from Australian journalist

We are delighted to have received a generous donation of AUS $ 10,000 from Dr. Elizabeth Finkel, Contributing Editor at COSMOS Magazine. Dr. Finkel was the recipient of the Universities Australia Higher Education Journalist of the Year Award for 2011, for her article ‘The Trouble with Genes‘ and chose to donate her prize money to REACH. Her donation will support a new intervention and research project on nutrition and TB. Thank you very much, Dr Finkel, we are very grateful to you!
