Communications Associate

Location: Chennai

REACH is a Chennai-based non-profit organisation dedicated to the fight against Tuberculosis (TB). This is a full-time position based at the Chennai office. Please note that we cannot support relocation costs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The Communications Associate will be responsible for both internal and external communications at REACH including:

  • Maintaining all websites for REACH including content management;
  • Managing social media channels;
  • Drafting and designing a quarterly newsletter on TB;
  • Drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web- and media, as appropriate;
  • Preparing background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, partners, donors and others, as required. Assisting in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them;
  • Drafting other communication material on TB, as required for various projects;
  • Maintaining all documentation including photos, videos and reports from other staff;
  • Assisting with any other relevant communications work;
  • Drafting background materials on TB for journalists;
  • Assisting with publicity and dissemination of all announcements including the media fellowships and media awards;
  • Assisting with tracking and monitoring media reporting on TB in India.

Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or related field;
  • At least one-two years’ relevant professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media but highly motivated recent graduates are also welcome to apply;
  • Knowledge of or experience in health and development journalism is desirable;
  • Basic understanding of or willingness to learn about public health and tuberculosis in India;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and at least one other language (Hindi or Tamil). Ability to write/read all three languages is an asset;
  • Ability to draft reports, publications and press releases clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to carry out background research and compile literature reviews;
  • Ability to effectively manage relationships and liaise with journalists and other media representatives;
  • Knowledge of computer systems, internet navigation and various office applications, specifically interactive digital media;
  • Ability to generate and manage content for websites and various social media channels;
  • Experience in media monitoring and tracking an asset.
