Media & Communications Associate  

This is a full-time position based at the Chennai office.

Major Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

 For the REACH Lilly MDR-TB Partnership Media Initiative:

  • Coordinating with journalists across India for the annual Fellowship programme;
  • Working with the REACH team to design and conduct training workshops for health and development journalists;
  • Drafting background materials on TB for journalists;
  • Ensuring publicity and dissemination of all announcements including the media fellowships and media awards;
  • Drafting background materials on TB for journalists;
  • Assisting with qualitative research for the project;
  • Maintaining the media4tb website.

 For internal and external communications at REACH:

  • Maintaining all websites for REACH including content management;
  • Managing social media channels;
  • Drafting and designing a quarterly newsletter on TB;
  • Drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web- and media, as appropriate;
  • Preparing background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, partners, donors and others, as required.  Assisting in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them;
  • Drafting other communication material on TB, as required for various projects;
  • Maintaining all documentation including photos, videos and reports from other staff;
  • Assisting with any other relevant communications work.

 Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or related field;
  • At least two years’ relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast or interactive digital media prefered but highly motivated recent graduates are also welcome to apply;
  • Ability to draft reports, publications and press releases clearly and concisely is the most important requirement for this position;
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English and Tamil. Knowledge of Hindi is an asset;
  • Basic understanding of or willingness to learn about public health and tuberculosis in India;
  • Ability to carry out background research and compile literature reviews;
  • Ability to effectively manage relationships and liaise with journalists and other media representatives;
  • Ability to generate and manage content for websites and various social media channels.
